Clayton King is an American pastor, evangelist, professor, and author. He is the senior pastor at Newspring Church in South Carolina.
Biography
Clayton King was born in 1972 to a teenage mother who was not ready for motherhood. She gave him up for adoption to Joe and Jane, a Southern Baptist couple who raised him on a farm in rural South Carolina.
King grew up in a Christian environment. His parents were Southern Baptists, his grandfather was Pentecostal, and he went to a Presbyterian Christian school. Even though he was raised in church, he did not become a Christian until he was fourteen. His parents’ example and the testimony of a former drug dealer at his school helped him find his faith in Christ. He began preaching at age 15.
Today, King is the senior pastor of Newspring Church in South Carolina and the founder of Clayton King Ministries.

Education
King graduated from Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville. In 1988, he started a Christian group there called the Solid Rock Club. He went on to Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Ministry and Literature and was named the Outstanding Male Graduate of the Year in 1995. He also graduated from the Billy Graham Emerging Evangelist Institute.
In 2012, Anderson University awarded King an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities for his service to the Kingdom of God. North Greenville University also awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities in 2015.
Family Life
King is married to Sharie, and they have two sons, Joseph and Jacob. The family lives in Anderson, South Carolina.
Ministry
King began preaching at age 15, speaking at schools, prisons, and youth groups. In 1991, he founded Clayton King Ministries and Crossroads Worldwide, a youth organization that partners with churches to offer mission opportunities for young people.
In 2000, he became the teaching pastor at Newspring Church. He has also served as the campus pastor at Liberty University, preaching at the university’s convocation and Spiritual Emphasis Week since 2005.
Clayton King Ministries has been active for nearly 30 years, offering conferences, internships, camps, and international missions in over 42 U.S. states and more than 40 countries.
The ministry moved from Gardner-Webb to Anderson University, where King is a distinguished professor of evangelism.
Since 2011, King has been the headmaster of Broad River Christian School, a homeschool he started for his sons.
