Biography
Florence Bruce gave birth to Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams in 1957, despite medical advice that her pregnancy was risky and that she should terminate it. Later, Florence learned that Nicholas had survived the treatment, and he was actually a twin, with Nicholas being the sole survivor.
Nicholas’s father, E.K. Duncan-Williams, was an ambassador, politician, and chief. He became actively involved in Nicholas’s life when Nicholas was 16.
Nicholas grew up with 43 siblings and learned to handle challenging situations from a young age.
In 1976, Nicholas Duncan-Williams lost three fingers. While he was recovering at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, nurses Mrs. Raj (Hemalatha John Rajaratnam) and the Acquah sisters evangelized to him. Nicholas was converted to Christianity that year and vowed to spread the gospel and serve God for the rest of his life.
After receiving his Holy Ghost baptism at the Church of Pentecost, Nicholas attended Bishop Idahosa’s Church of God Mission International Bible College in Nigeria to become a pastor. He later established Christian Action Faith Ministries (CAFM) and Action Chapel International (ACI) upon his return. CAFM was the first charismatic church in Ghana.
Action Chapel International, one of the largest megachurches in Accra, houses the administrative offices of Christian Action Faith Ministries. CAFM started as a prayer gathering in his father’s home and moved through several locations, including Fadama, Tradefair, International Students’ Hall, and Diplomatic Shop, before settling at Spintex Road, where the Prayer Cathedral has been since 1992.
