Heidi Gayle Farrell was born to James Moies Farrell and Glenetta Betty Farrell. Glenetta was an English teacher and was born Glenetta Betty Schacht. Heidi grew up in Southern California. She became a Christian after hearing a Navajo preacher while volunteering on a Choctaw reservation. Heidi has a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from Vanguard University. She also has a PhD in systematic theology from King’s College London, which she completed in 1995.

The ministry grew to include well-drilling, free health clinics, feeding programs, schools, and over 5000 churches in Mozambique, with a total of over 10,000 churches in more than 20 countries.
The ministry has several bases with Bible schools, community outreach programs, and top-ranked public schools. In September 2008, Iris Ministries began a well-digging project in Northern Mozambique. Their ministry is known for reports of miracles. In September 2010, the Southern Medical Journal published an article showing “significant improvements” in hearing and vision among those who had received prayer from the ministry.
Originally from Southern California, the Bakers now live full-time in Pemba, Mozambique. They also travel globally to share their story and teach about God’s love. Candy Gunther Brown, a professor at Indiana University, has called the Bakers “among the most influential leaders in world Pentecostalism.”
